“Rome was not built in a day,” they say, so also the success story of St. Thomas High School,Cansaulim we see today, has to be measured by the strength of character and the untiring contributions of those who built this great Institution brick by brick. The school founder Rev. Fr. Roberto Barreto, who was the Parish Priest of St. Thomas Church, Cansaulim then, a respected personality, a strict disciplinarian and a man with courage, determination, strength of mind and above all a visionary, sowed the seed in the year 1962, assisted by Sr. Gestrude S.F.N the first Headmistress with the initial strength of 140 students and 8 dedicated locals, comprising the team of the staff. With no funds and no means except his deep faith in St. Thomas that ‘he will provide’ and the zeal to work for the betterment of the village community, Fr. founder plunged in the field of Education, started the school in 1962 and christened it St. Thomas High School after the Village patron Saint. It was then, that the first English medium school was established not only for the people of Cansaulim but all the surrounding villages upto Majorda. When the classes started they were conducted in the church verandahs and sacristy. Fr. Roberto said “ Building do not make a School ! It is you, the teachers and students that make the school and with the zeal, dedication and commitment, we will build the School”. Soon however he started the construction of the physical school building with the loan taken and as time followed donations poured from far and wide. The inherent character of the school built through the years saw that not only it survived, but prospered. Today we can proudly say that we are carrying ahead the torch with his all round commitment, adapting to new techniques in education. St. Thomas High School feels blessed to be placed in a scenic, green location, peaceful and conducive to learning and to the development of children, right next to the beautiful Church dedicated to our patron St. Thomas. A feature of pride is the Inclusive Education that it imparts, this being, one of the first schools of this type.
We have a vision, vision full of hope To bridge together the gap between the new and the old standing together as one family To live in love, peace and unity
Ch. God of wisdom enlighten us, steer us to achieve our goal, to serve our school, home and motherland to work as one, hand in hand.
School is a temple, a burning flame of light A ray to garner wisdom, to enrich and to lift our lives Striving harder, higher to reach for the sky To keep the banner, of St. Thomas flying high.
